The journey

Day by day

Day01

Bergen

Embark from 15:00 · Sail 22:00

Board at the Hanseatic wharf of Bryggen, its timber façades unchanged since the 1300s. Champagne on the veranda as we sail into the Byfjorden at dusk.

Day02

At Sea — Sognefjord Approach

A slow morning up Norway's longest fjord. First lecture from the expedition historian; first sight of waterfalls threading down the walls.

Day03

Flåm & the Nærøyfjord

Arrive 08:00 · Depart 18:00

The Flåmsbana railway climbs 866 metres in twenty kilometres. We overnight nearby and thread the narrow, UNESCO-listed Nærøyfjord at golden hour.

Day04

Olden & Briksdal Glacier

Arrive 08:00 · Depart 17:00

A valley walk through meadows to the blue ice of Briksdal, an arm of the Jostedalsbreen — mainland Europe's largest glacier.

Day05

Geirangerfjord

Arrive 07:00 · Depart 19:00

The Seven Sisters and the Suitor waterfalls face each other across fifteen kilometres of still water. Kayak beneath them, or take the eagle road to Flydalsjuvet.

Day06

Ålesund

Arrive 08:00 · Depart 17:00

Norway's art nouveau town, rebuilt in stone after 1904. The 418 steps of Aksla reward you with the whole archipelago.

Day07

At Sea — The Coast of Light

Crossing the Arctic Circle at 66°33′. A ceremony on deck, a glass of something cold, and the sun riding the horizon all night.

Day08

Lofoten Islands

Arrive 09:00 · Depart 22:00

Red rorbu cabins, drying racks of cod, white sand beaches at 68° North. Dinner ashore in Henningsvær, the islands' prettiest harbour.

Day09

Trollfjord

Scenic cruising 14:00

The ship turns, improbably, inside a fjord barely a hundred metres wide. Sea eagles circle the masts. Soup and fresh bread on the bow.

Day10

North Cape

Arrive 08:00 · Depart 16:00

The 307-metre cliff at 71°10′21″ North — Europe's symbolic end. Nothing between you and the Pole but dark, cold sea.

Day11

At Sea — Under the Midnight Sun

A day of whale watching and slow living. At midnight, the sun touches the sea and climbs again.

Day12

Tromsø

Arrive 07:00 · Disembark from 09:00

Farewell breakfast above the Arctic Circle. The polar museum and the Arctic Cathedral are minutes from the quay for those lingering.

Included, always

All-suite veranda accommodation · All dining and beverages including fine wines and spirits · Shore experiences in every port · Butler service · Gratuities, Wi-Fi and expedition gear
